By Aaron Humes: While its chances of developing into tropical cyclone are “almost zero”, it will be a rainy weekend ahead as a tropical wave prepares to cross the country.
Chief Meteorologist Ronald Gordon reported that an excessive rainfall watch is in effect, expected to increase to a warning by this evening. The wave is expected to cross starting early Friday morning. The forecast calls for two to four inches of rain through Saturday morning, decreasing up to the time of the Carnival Road March in the afternoon.
Residents along the Sibun River should expect higher river levels and the country’s main rivers – the Hondo, Belize, Macal, and Mopan – should see elevated levels. The area around Maskall in the Belize District is under a flash flood alert.
NEMO Coordinator Captain Daniel Mendez reiterated that the organization stands by to assist where needed and reminded that this is the teeth of the hurricane season and so everyone is asked to stay vigilant and update their preparation plans.
