By Breaking Belize News Staff: Errolyn Ionie Brown, a 32-year-old homeless mother, has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison after failing to post bail on a charge of possessing a drug pipe. Brown appeared before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2 on Wednesday, unrepresented and unable to provide a fixed address.
Brown faces allegations of possessing a silver metal pipe, designed for smoking crack cocaine, on September 3, 2024, on Orange Street. Despite admitting to using crack cocaine, Brown denied having the pipe and pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Senior Magistrate offered Brown bail in the sum of $200, with one surety of the same amount. However, due to her inability to provide a reliable address where she could be reached, the court was concerned about her ability to attend future hearings. As a result, the Magistrate required that her surety present a valid address before bail could be posted.
By the afternoon, Brown had not managed to secure the required bail or contact any relatives, leading to her remand in prison. She will remain at the Belize Central Prison until her next court appearance on October 2, 2024.
