By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize lost their second game in the AFECAVOL Central American Men’s Final Four Volleyball Championship on Thursday. Despite their efforts, the Belize National Team fell to El Salvador 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 26-24, 25-23) at the 7 de Diciembre ‘Alfonso Gordillo’ Gymnasium in Guatemala City.
Francis Hauze led Belize with an astounding 23 points, including three blocks and one ace. Kerwin Palacio added 17 points and Ernest Broaster contributed 11.
Captain Abner Cano led El Salvador with 20 points, and Rodrigo Chávez added 11.
“It was a bad result. It was not the result we wanted,” Belize captain Elton Anderson told the Central America Association of Volleyball Federations (AFECAVOL) after the game.
“We worked hard, but somehow in the final parts of the sets, we just couldn’t close. We must beat Nicaragua (on Friday) to at least leave with a victory. We wanted three victories, but tomorrow we all must come focused and play hard from start to finish.”
On the other hand, Cano was satisfied with his team’s performance.
“After (Wednesday’s) defeat, we sat down as a team and decided to win the last two games to get on the podium,” Cano said.
“The result was what we expected. In the last games we have played against Guatemala, we have not been able to beat them, but we came to change history,” he emphasized.

The tournament, which qualifies the winners for the NORCECA Continental Championship, concludes on Friday.
