By Horace Palacio: A powerful tropical wave is sweeping across Belize, resulting in cloudy to overcast skies and bringing widespread rain, showers, and thunderstorms to much of the country. This weather pattern is expected to continue throughout the day and into the night. Coastal and marine areas are particularly affected, with winds blowing from the south to southeast at 10-20 knots, creating moderate seas and waves ranging from 4 to 6 feet.

Temperatures across Belize will vary, with coastal regions seeing highs of 86°F during the day and lows of 78°F at night. Inland areas will experience slightly warmer conditions, reaching 88°F during the day and dipping to 71°F overnight. In the hillier parts of the country, cooler temperatures are expected, with daytime highs of 78°F and nighttime lows of 65°F.

The Belize National Meteorological Service has issued a small craft caution, warning operators of small vessels to be on alert for gusty winds and locally rough seas near heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Mariners are urged to proceed with caution, especially near coastal areas.

Looking forward to Saturday, Belizeans should prepare for more cloudy skies and scattered showers. Rain and thunderstorms are expected to linger over inland regions in the afternoon, with the southern and coastal areas seeing the heaviest rainfall on Saturday night.

Tide predictions show a low tide early this morning at 5:27 AM, a high tide at 11:50 AM, and another low tide at 6:02 PM. Tomorrow’s high tide is anticipated at 11:45 PM. The sun rose today at 5:39 AM and will set at 6:01 PM, while the moon will rise at 8:23 AM and set at 8:12 PM.
