By Horace Palacio: Belizeans can expect a mainly fair and sunny day today, September 8th, 2024, with a few cloudy spells. While isolated showers or thunderstorms are possible, the weather will take a turn tonight. Expect an increase in shower activity, particularly in southern and central areas, spreading to most places as the night progresses.

Marine conditions will see moderate seas with waves reaching 4-6 feet, and winds blowing from the east-southeast at 10-20 knots.

Temperatures along the coast will range from a high of 88°F (31°C) to a low of 78°F (26°C). Inland areas will experience warmer temperatures, reaching 91°F (33°C) and dipping to 72°F (22°C). The hills will be cooler, with highs of 78°F (26°C) and lows of 68°F (20°C).

The National Meteorological Service is also monitoring two areas of potential tropical development. One system in the central tropical Atlantic has a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 48 hours. Another system in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression in the same timeframe.

Looking ahead to Monday, expect cloudy periods with lingering showers and isolated thunderstorms, mainly in the north during the morning and inland in the afternoon. The activity will become more isolated but may redevelop over the south on Monday night.

Stay tuned for updates on these developing weather systems and enjoy the sunshine while it lasts!
