By Horace Palacio: The Ministry of Infrastructure Development & Housing (MIDH) swiftly addressed a road washout in the Cayo District after heavy rains caused a culvert on the Bullet Tree/Calla Creek Road to collapse. The washout, a result of intense downpours exacerbated by climate change, temporarily disrupted access for residents, but the Ministry’s rapid response ensured the situation was resolved within an hour.
In a social media post, MIDH shared updates on their progress, stating, “While we can’t always beat Mother Nature and her terrible cousin climate change, we CAN ensure that we respond to situations immediately so our residents are not unduly impacted.” The post was accompanied by images of the collapsed culvert and the repair efforts in action.
The quick response from the MIDH team is being praised by residents in the area, many of whom rely on the Bullet Tree/Calla Creek Road for daily transportation.
As extreme weather events become more frequent, MIDH is preparing to deal with such occurrences with urgency and efficiency. The Ministry’s actions emphasize the need for continual upgrades and vigilance to ensure the country’s roadways remain safe and functional.
Going forward, MIDH will remain on alert to tackle similar incidents and protect critical transportation routes across the country.
