Carnival Association condemns female reveler who ‘backed it up’ on little boy, police to investigate

By Breaking Belize News Staff: President of the Belize Carnival Association, Patrick Thompson, in an exclusive interview with Breaking Belize News (BBN) has condemned a viral video taken during Saturday’s carnival road march in which an adult female reveler was recorded dancing inappropriately with a little boy. In a separate interview, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has confirmed with BBN that police are investigating the matter.

“That is something the Association will not tolerate. That is something that we definitely will condemn. It is one of the reasons we have our Junior bands fully clothed because we don’t want anyone to prey on our children,” Thompson said in a statement to BBN.

Thompson said that at the Association level, it could not penalize the band for such an act but it could advise the band not to include that particular reveler in next year’s activities. He said the Association would also make the same appeal to all bands in the carnival road march so as not to cause a black eye to the Association and to the festivities.

“Year after year we ask the bands to see how they can rope off their revelers because it’s sad that it’s a little kid,” Thompson said.

The Commissioner of Police also confirmed with BBN that police are investigating the matter, following a public statement on his Facebook page that the act is “tantamount to an assault of a sexual nature upon the child.”
