By Horace Palacio: Belizeans can expect a day of cloudy spells interspersed with a few showers and isolated thunderstorms across most areas today, according to the National Meteorological Service. This weather pattern is due to the prevailing relatively moist and unstable conditions.
Mariners and those heading to the beach should be aware of moderate sea conditions with easterly to southeasterly winds blowing at 10-20 knots. Wave heights are anticipated to be between 4-6 feet. Coastal areas will experience temperatures ranging from 88°F (31°C) to 76°F (24°C), while inland regions could see highs of 92°F (33°C) and lows of 72°F (22°C). Hilly areas will be cooler with temperatures varying from 78°F (26°C) to 66°F (19°C).
The Meteorological Service is keeping a close eye on two tropical weather systems. Potential Tropical Cyclone #6, currently located about 305 miles south-southeast of the Mouth of the Rio Grande, is packing maximum sustained winds of 50 mph and is moving north-northwest at 5 mph.
In addition, an area of low pressure over the central tropical Atlantic is showing signs of organization and has a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 48 hours.
Looking ahead to Tuesday, Belizeans can anticipate a few showers or thunderstorms in the morning, gradually decreasing and becoming isolated in the afternoon.
For those planning activities near the coast, today’s tide schedule includes a low tide at 8:17 AM, a high tide at 2:16 PM, another low tide at 7:17 PM, and a high tide at 1:27 AM. The sun rose at 5:40 AM and will set at 5:59 PM. The moon will rise at 10:55 AM and set at 10:09 PM.
Residents are advised to stay updated on the latest weather developments and take necessary precautions. The forecast was prepared by Forecaster Francisca Wellington.
