By Aaron Humes: Jordy Polanco’s 26th-minute goal, assisted by Orlando Velasquez, propelled Belize to a 1-0 victory over Anguilla in the CONCACAF Nations League. The win, Belize’s second in the competition, took place at Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands.
Despite creating numerous opportunities, Belize couldn’t extend their lead but showcased a solid defensive performance against a spirited Anguilla side. This win puts Belize in a strong position to return to League B after being relegated last year.
Belize’s dominance was evident in the statistics, with 15 shots on goal compared to Anguilla’s 7 and 69% possession. Polanco’s decisive goal came from the top of the 18-yard box.
With this victory, Belize concludes this round of the Concacaf Nations League at the top of Group B, amassing 6 points with an impressive 5 goals scored and none conceded.
Belize’s next matches will be at home in October.
