Queen of the Bay crowned ahead of Citizens Parade and 10th Bram

By Aaron Humes: An unbroken tradition was observed at this morning’s official ceremony – the installation of the Queen of the Bay.

Ending a turbulent reign, Deanni Laing, officially succeeding Keely Faux, was charged as have other Queens before her, to rule and warm the hearts of the Bay. She in turn promised to do so with honor and pride.

The Queen of the Bay was first established in 1948 and has survived controversy and turmoil to become as much of an institution as the September Celebrations itself.

With the ceremony now complete, the Citizen’s Parade will proceed against the flow of traffic from Southside (Albert Street, Orange Street, Vernon Street, over Belchina Bridge) to Northside (North Front Street and up to Lord Rhaburn Square behind Memorial Park) where this year’s Tenth Bram will be held.
