By Aaron Humes: Member of the House of Representatives for Collet Patrick Faber – at least, until the question is settled on September 13 – has hit back against the “baseless” attempt by his party leader to have him ostracized from the party.
Faber notes that this is the second time Barrow has tried to suggest that he has resigned from the party – and that his previous effort was also rejected. That is a reference to when the House censured Barrow for a direct attack on the Speaker and Faber did not wholeheartedly back him.
Faber states that Barrow, again, “has wrongly invoked the Constitution for political gain…Barrow’s actions display either a profound misunderstanding of the Constitution or a malicious intent to undermine my position. Either way, this conduct is unbecoming of someone who seeks to lead both the opposition and the UDP. His repeated attempts to misuse the law raise serious questions about his fitness to lead.”
As for himself, Faber writes, “I remain committed to serving my constituents in Collet and to upholding the principles of democracy. Belize deserves leaders who act with integrity, not those who misuse their positions for personal vendettas.”
That suggests that Faber will put in an appearance on Friday to christen the George Price Center for Peace and Development as the new temporary home of the National Assembly, which will hold its first meeting of the House there while the National Assembly Building undergoes renovations.
