Police confirm one dead, three injured in Mile 37 crash

By Aaron Humes: Police are investigating the George Price Highway road traffic accident this afternoon, which they confirm caused one fatality and three injuries.

Police responded to a report of an accident between miles 36 and 37 on the George Price Highway, where they found a white Chrysler van partially in the bushes and a green Ford Escape overturned with its four wheels in the air. The white van was driven by 27-year-old Dennis Kevin Perez, a Belizean tour guide from the Belize District, while the green Ford Escape was driven by 40-year-old Jaime Alberto Correa.

Perez reported that while driving on the highway with two foreign visitors, 33-year-old Kelsey Marie O’Connor and 33-year-old Baylee Ann O’Brien, he saw the Ford Escape, traveling in the opposite direction to him, overturn. This caused the Ford Escape to collide with the front of his vehicle, forcing him off the Highway.

Perez and his passengers sustained various injuries. 28-year-old Estevan Chiac, who was traveling with Correa, died on impact. Correa sustained various injuries and was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City, where he remains in an unconscious state.
