By Rubén Morales Iglesias: After a grueling Stage 2, Belizean cyclist Derrick Chavarria fell from eighth to 26th place in the Tour of Honduras 2024 on Wednesday. Despite this drop, he is now BTR Racing’s highest-positioned rider. The cyclists covered 64.4 miles (103 kilometers) between Santa Rita and Santa Bárbara.
Guatemalan Mardoqueo Vasquez of Team Hino won the stage in 2 hours, 44 minutes, and 42 seconds. Chavarria finished in 27th position with a time of 3:03:41, trailing by 18:59.
After two stages, Colombian César Paredes of Team Hino took the lead with a total time of 5:50:28. Chavarria dropped from eighth to 26th, with a time of 6:09:28, trailing by 19 minutes flat.
Despite the drop in rank, Chavarria is now the best-placed rider for BTR Racing as his teammates faltered. BTR’s Torin Kray, who won Stage 1, fell from leader to 32nd with a time of 6:10:33, trailing the leader by 20:05. The second-best BTR rider, behind Chavarria, is Jordan Miller, who has a time of 6:09:52, 19:24 behind Paredes.
In the U23 ranking, Chavarria fell from third to ninth.
Stage 3 will be run on Friday, covering 73.75 miles (118 kilometers).
