Opposition Leader calls $6.9 million land purchase for University Hospital ‘A travesty’

By Aaron Humes: With news this week that the University of Belize is offering to reconsider where it places the future University Hospital in Belmopan, Leader of the Opposition Moses “Shyne” Barrow says the $6.9 million spent on land near the George Price Highway makes no sense and offers no benefit to the people of Belmopan.

It can only be corruption, said Barrow, that explains the decision of the Ministry of Health to buy the property after rejecting an earlier offer by the University because of access issues.

Barrow rehashed the arguments of the trade unions about the land and called on Government to reverse its decision, saying that the money belongs to the Belizean people.
