By Horace Palacio: Residents across Belize should prepare for a cloudy and damp Tuesday as relatively moist conditions persist, bringing scattered showers and the possibility of isolated thunderstorms throughout the day and into the night. While the rain may provide some relief from the recent heat, it’s important to remain cautious of potential localized flooding in low-lying areas.

Inland residents, particularly in the Cayo and Orange Walk districts, should expect high temperatures to reach a sweltering 94°F (34°C), so staying hydrated and taking precautions against heat exhaustion is crucial. Coastal areas will experience a slightly more comfortable high of 89°F (32°C), offering some respite from the inland heat. The hilly regions, including the Mountain Pine Ridge, can anticipate milder temperatures with highs around 82°F (28°C).

Mariners can expect favorable conditions with easterly winds blowing at a gentle 5-15 knots, creating slight sea states with waves reaching only 1-3 feet. This should allow for smooth sailing and fishing conditions for those venturing out into the Caribbean Sea.

Meanwhile, in the wider Atlantic basin, Tropical Depression Gordon continues to churn, currently located about 925 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands. While it poses no immediate threat to Belize, the National Meteorological Service advises residents to stay informed and monitor its progress.

The outlook for Wednesday suggests a continuation of the unsettled weather pattern, with a few showers and isolated thunderstorms lingering, particularly in the morning and early afternoon. However, conditions are expected to improve by Wednesday night, with a gradual decrease in shower activity.

Residents are reminded to take necessary precautions during periods of heavy rainfall, including avoiding flooded areas and driving with caution. Stay tuned to Breaking Belize News for further weather updates and any potential impacts from Tropical Depression Gordon.
