Belize Central Prison confirms death of alleged resort fraudster Christoper D’Angelo Marchena

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Chief Executive Officer of the Kolbe Foundation which manages the Belize Central Prison, Virgilio Murillo, confirmed with Breaking Belize News (BBN) that inmate Christopher D’Angelo Alvarado Marchena was found dead early on Friday morning.

Marchena, a Costa Rican national who has been on remand since February of this year after being accused of defrauding several resorts, was found dead inside his cell around 3:00 a.m. on Friday.

According to Murillo, he had been transferred back to the prison around 6:00 p.m. on Thursday after attending his court appearances in San Pedro this week. He was housed inside a cell in the remand section of the prison. Other inmates inside his cell alerted guards that Marchena was foaming from the mouth but by the time guards got inside the cell, he was unresponsive.

Medical and police personnel were called to the scene and an investigation is underway at this time.

Marchena was arrested after allegedly defrauding at least two resort in Belize by racking up exorbitant expenses and failing to pay for any of the services.
