By Horace Palacio: A weak tropical wave is influencing weather patterns across Belize today, bringing sunny spells interspersed with cloudy periods. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected, particularly along the coast and northern areas in the morning, and over inland and central regions in the afternoon. Activity will increase later tonight, predominantly affecting the south.
Marine conditions will see easterly to southeasterly winds at 5-15 knots, resulting in a slight sea state with waves of 1-3 feet. Temperatures will range from coastal highs of 89°F (32°C) to inland highs of 94°F (34°C), with cooler conditions in the hills.
Looking ahead, there is a possibility of a broad area of low pressure forming over the northwestern Caribbean Sea early to middle of next week. This system has the potential for gradual development, and a tropical depression could form as it moves slowly northward or northwestward. The National Meteorological Service (NMS) will continue to monitor this system closely.
The outlook for the weekend includes cloudy periods with scattered showers and thunderstorms across the country on Saturday, followed by an increase in activity on Saturday night, particularly over the south and coast.
