By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Dangriga-born Belizean Douglas Langford, Jr. will be studying at and playing for Harvard University, one of the world’s leading universities, in the United States NCAA Division I.
Langford, who captained Belize at the FIBA U18 AmeriCup 2024 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in June, has officially committed to play in NCAA Division I for Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
“I am extremely excited to announce that I am committed to the admissions process at Harvard University,” Langford said in an Instagram post on Monday, September 23.
“First and foremost, I’d like to thank God, my family, and my high school coaches. I would especially like to thank Coach Amaker and his coaching staff for believing in me and making all this possible.”
Langford, who earned a 4.0 GPA at St. Pius X St. Matthias Academy in California, was reportedly offered a four-year scholarship worth approximately BZ $700,000 (US $350,000). He had previously been offered a full scholarship to the equally prestigious Yale University.
He is expected to attend Harvard University next year.
Langford moved to the United States three years ago to pursue his dream of studying at a top university and playing basketball professionally. So far, so good for the young Belizean.
