Central American Football Union selects 2 Belize referees to officiate at UNCAF FIFA FORWARD Men’s Under-17 Interclubs Cup in Panama

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Two Belizean referees are in Panama officiating at the UNCAF FIFA FORWARD Men’s Under-17 Interclubs Cup, which started on Sunday, September 29, in Panama City.

Referee Victor Caliz and assistant referee Robert Cucul traveled last week to fulfill their international commitments.

For Caliz, this is his third international appointment. He has previously traveled to Honduras for the UNCAF FIFA FORWARD Under-16 and Under-19 Central American Championships. Cucul also worked for the UNCAF FIFA FORWARD Under-16 in Honduras.

“Representing your country is always a good feeling, it’s always exciting to be stepping out of the country,” Caliz said in an interview with the FFB’s Communications Director, Yashmin Juan.

When asked what advice he’d give younger referees, Caliz said that they should work hard to face the challenges, not give up when things are not turning out as expected, study the laws of the game, always be consistent, be open to advice, and be in good shape to make the right decisions on the field.
