By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Stars Academy fell 6-0 to Panama’s Plaza Amador on Sunday, September 29, in the opening match of the UNCAF FIFA FORWARD Men’s Under-17 Interclubs Cup being held in Panama City.
Led by coach Dale Pelayo, Stars Academy were hoping for a better performance at the beginning of the tournament, but the home squad proved too strong for our Belizean representatives.
Next, Stars Academy, who were seeded in Group A, will face Nicaragua’s Real Estelí on Tuesday, October 1, at 12:00 pm (11:00 am Belize). Their final group match will see them tackle Honduras Boca Junior on Thursday, October 3, at 12:00 pm (11:00 am Belize).
In the other Group A match on Sunday, Real Estelí blanked Boca Junior 3-0.
In the initial Group B matches, Guatemala’s Comunicaciones drew 2-2 against Panama’s Academy Champions, while Costa Rica’s Liga Deportiva Alajuelense trounced Puerto Rico’s Academia Quintana 14-0.
After the group round robin, ranking matches, including the final and 3rd place games, will be played on Saturday, October 5.
