By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Independent runner Eyon Anderson won the 4th Annual Men’s Belize City 5K by 29 seconds on a rainy and gloomy Sunday morning. The event was organized by the Belize City Council in collaboration with Councillor Kaya Cattouse, the National Sports Council of Belize, Total Time Belize, and the Belize National Triathlon Association on September 29, 2024.
“Big ups to all the volunteers and racers that gathered early [Sunday] morning,” the Belize City Council said in a social media post.
Anderson clocked in at 20 minutes and 39.9 seconds (0:20:39.9) for the five-kilometre race. 501 Run Club’s Shanir Thompson from San Pedro took second place with a time of 21 minutes and 08.9 seconds (0:21:08.9).
UB Track Team’s Jonathan Chiquin from San Ignacio ran in third with a time of 21 minutes and 14.3 seconds (0:21:14.3). Wilbert Sho from Pueblo Viejo, Toledo, finished fourth in 21 minutes and 41.6 seconds (0:21:41.6). University of Belize’s Jonathan Marroquin came in fifth with a time of 22 minutes and 01.0 seconds (22:01.0).
All 11 participants who started the race finished. However, three registered runners did not compete.
