By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Tropical Storm warnings are now in effect for southeastern Mexico, specifically east of Puerto Angel to Boca de Pijijiapan, as Tropical Depression Eleven-E approaches the region.
A Tropical Storm Watch has also been issued from Boca de Pijijiapan to the Mexico-Guatemala border.
The tropical depression is expected to make landfall in Mexico by Wednesday.
The depression currently has maximum sustained winds of 35 mph, with higher gusts anticipated.
Tropical depression 11-E is forecast to strengthen into a tropical storm later today or tonight, with potential for further intensification as it nears the coast.
Rainfall from this system is expected to be significant, with totals ranging from 4 to 8 inches and localized amounts potentially reaching up to 12 inches across parts of western Guatemala and several Mexican states, including Chiapas, Oaxaca, Veracruz, and Tabasco.
This heavy rainfall raises concerns for flooding and mudslides in affected areas.
