By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Westrac Slick Runners’ Irene Thiessen captured the top spot in the 4th Annual Women’s Belize City 5K on a rainy and gloomy Sunday morning. The event, held on September 29, 2024, was organized by the Belize City Council in collaboration with Councillor Kaya Cattouse, the National Sports Council of Belize, Total Time Belize, and the Belize National Triathlon Association.
“Big ups to all the volunteers and racers that gathered early [Sunday] morning,” the Belize City Council said in a social media post.
Thiessen, from Belmopan, clocked in at 27 minutes and 20.9 seconds (0:27:20.9) for the five-kilometre race. UB 5K Team’s Elisha Rash from the Capital ran in second with a time of 28 minutes and 21.3 seconds (0:28:21.3). Heart and Sole’s Kristelle Young from Lord’s Bank placed third in 28 minutes and 28.6 seconds (0:28:28.6).
Frankie Stein Reyes from Los Lagos finished fourth in 28 minutes and 45.3 seconds (0:28:45.3). Westrac Slick Runners’ Delmi Cornelio came in fifth with a time of 29 minutes and 53.2 seconds (0:29:53.2).
All nine participants who started the race finished.
