By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Hurricane Milton is on track to impact the east coast of Florida, prompting officials to issue storm surge and hurricane warnings. Residents are urged to prepare and evacuate if instructed.
Data from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) noted that as of this morning, Milton was located about 100 miles northeast of Progreso, Mexico, with maximum sustained winds of 145 mph, making it a dangerous Category 4 hurricane.
The storm is expected to make landfall in Florida on Wednesday night.
Warnings are in effect from the Indian River/St. Lucie County Line to Ponte Vedra Beach, with a storm surge warning extending from the Volusia/Brevard County line northward to the mouth of the St. Mary’s River.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Leslie is moving northwest over the central Atlantic with winds of 70 mph but is expected to weaken in the coming days.
Elsewhere in the Atlantic, an area of low pressure north of the Bahamas could develop over the next day.
Another tropical wave is expected to move off the west coast of Africa in a couple of days.
Afterward, environmental conditions appear only marginally favorable for some limited development of this system while it moves westward or west-northwestward across the eastern tropical Atlantic, moving near the Cabo Verde Islands on Thursday or early Friday.
