By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Gwen Lizarraga High School played a very competitive game against Panama’s Gaston Faraudo P. school in the basketball final on Thursday, falling 83-77 at the Under 18 CODICADER Games and gaining the Central American silver medal.
Jason Orosco led the way for Gwen Liz at the Gimnasio Nacional José Adolfo Pineda in San Salvador, El Salvador, with an amazing game-high 42 points.
Gaston Faraudo had won 98-83 in their first encounter in group play, but today the Panamanians had to work much harder to win the game against an extremely combative Belizean side.
With the Gwen Liz silver medal, Belize finishes the regional games with nine medals: one gold, two silver, and six bronze medals. El Salvador’s ITEXSAL earned the bronze medal by defeating Honduras’ Merino’s Educational Center 93-73 in the third-place game.
In the girls’ competition, King’s College finished seventh after losing the sixth-place game 80-60 against Costa Rica’s Centro Educativo Naranjo Bilingüe on Wednesday.
Panama also won the girls’ gold medal, with Instituto Enrico Fermi defeating Guatemala’s CETACH 69-56 in the final. El Salvador’s ITEXSAL won bronze after defeating Great Commission School of Honduras 113-38 in the third-place game.
