By Horace Palacio: Belize is bracing for a wet and stormy 24 hours, with forecasts predicting widespread showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds. Coastal and offshore areas are expected to experience isolated rainfall during the morning, with showers increasing and spreading inland by evening or night. The Belize Met Service has issued a thunderstorm watch, warning of potential heavy rainfall, intense lightning, and strong winds that could cause localized damage.

Marine conditions remain relatively calm, with north-northwest winds blowing at 5 to 10 knots and wave heights between 1 to 4 feet. However, boaters and coastal residents are advised to remain alert for sudden weather changes due to thunderstorms.

Temperatures will vary across the country. On the coast, temperatures will reach a high of 86°F, dropping to 76°F at night. Inland areas will experience warmer conditions, peaking at 89°F and cooling to 70°F overnight, while the hills will remain cooler, with a range of 77°F to 65°F.

The Belize Met Service has urged residents to stay informed and monitor weather updates closely. Belizeans are advised to seek shelter if thunderstorms occur and to remain cautious due to the potential for strong winds and intense lightning.

In its tropical weather outlook, the Belize Met Service reported that no tropical cyclone formation is expected in the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, or Gulf of Mexico over the next 48 hours.

Looking ahead to Monday, conditions will stay cloudy, with showers and thunderstorms expected, especially in the south. Rainfall is expected to taper off by Monday night, with isolated showers marking the end of the rainy spell.

High tides are forecasted at 5:59 AM and 7:21 PM, while low tides will occur at 1:14 PM and 12:53 AM tomorrow. Sunrise today was at 5:45 AM, with sunset expected at 5:31 PM. The moon will rise at 2:55 PM and set at 2:46 AM tomorrow.

Residents are encouraged to take precautions as the unstable weather system continues to affect Belize through the weekend.
