By Breaking Belize News Staff: Orlando Jones, a 55-year-old man accused of sexual assault on a minor, has been granted bail by the High Court. Jones, whose sister had circulated a wanted poster for him in connection with the allegations, was released on an $8,000 bail with two sureties of $4,000 each, following a successful bail application by his attorney, Dale Cayetano, a former Director of the Belize Family Court.
During the hearing, held before Justice Natalie Creary Dixon, there was no objection from the Crown, represented by Alifah Elrington. As part of the bail conditions, Jones must surrender his passport, keep away from the victim, sign in at the Corozal Police Station every Friday, and maintain a 100-yard distance from the victim. He is also prohibited from leaving the country or applying for new travel documents without court permission.
Jones was initially arraigned on October 15, 2024, before Magistrate Deborah Rogers in the Orange Walk Magistrates Court, where he pleaded not guilty but was denied bail and remanded to Belize Central Prison. His next court appearance is scheduled for January 31, 2024.
