By Horace Palacio: Belize is beginning to experience slightly drier conditions, though scattered showers and thunderstorms will still affect parts of the country today. According to the National Meteorological Service, the general forecast for today, October 22, 2024, indicates sunny skies with cloudy spells, while northern and central areas will likely see showers or isolated thunderstorms throughout the day. Tonight, coastal areas will be the primary focus of showers, with isolated activity elsewhere in the country.
Marine conditions are relatively calm, with winds coming from the north-northeast at 5-15 knots. The sea state is choppy, and waves are expected to be in the range of 3 to 5 feet. Coastal temperatures will reach a high of 88°F, with inland temperatures peaking at 86°F.
Looking ahead, the outlook for tomorrow suggests that a few showers or isolated thunderstorms will persist over central and southern areas on Wednesday, spreading to some northern areas by night. However, for the most part, Belize is set to experience isolated weather activity.
Tropical Storm Oscar, located southeast of Long Island, Bahamas, is moving northeast at 12 mph with sustained winds of 40 mph, and does not pose an immediate threat to Belize.
