By Aaron Humes: With the 12-month limit approaching for pursuing a recall petition against a member of the House of Representatives, former Port Loyola area representative Anthony ‘Boots’ Martinez says he will not pursue his petition against Gilroy Usher Sr.
The petition was rejected for not having enough valid signatures as determined by the Elections and Boundaries Department by Governor General Dame Froyla Tzalam earlier this year, to which Martinez objected on various grounds.
Martinez had made noises about taking the matter to court but it appears he will not now proceed. He was recently named UDP standard bearer once again in the constituency, replacing Philip Willoughby, but has now fallen out with UDP leader Moses “Shyne” Barrow and will likely be replaced himself.
