By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 25-year-old Belize City resident, Sean Reneau of West Street, is out on bail after being remanded to prison earlier this week on a charge of possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply. Reneau was allegedly found with 3.2 grams of crack cocaine in his yard in the George Street area.
On Monday, Reneau appeared unrepresented before a Magistrate in Court #7, where he initially pleaded guilty to the charge, admitting he had the intention to sell the drugs. The Magistrate, however, explained the seriousness of the offense, which could result in a mandatory $10,000 fine and up to three years in prison. Reneau then clarified that the crack cocaine was found on the ground near him, not in his direct possession, leading the Magistrate to enter an equivocal plea on his behalf and offer him bail.
Despite being granted bail of $5,000 with two sureties, Reneau was unable to post bail by the end of the day and was remanded to Belize Central Prison. He is set to return to court on December 4, 2024.
As a condition of his bail, Reneau must report to the Precinct 1 Police Station weekly and refrain from any further drug-related offenses, or risk having his bail revoked.
