By Aaron Humes: A proposal by Leader of the Opposition Moses “Shyne” Barrow to coalesce with Tracy Panton’s Alliance For Democracy as they move to the general election of 2025 has been rejected.
In a statement issued today, Taegar-Panton claims that the “Unity National Convention held on October 20, 2024, was a legitimate and democratic process that resulted in the election of Hon. Tracy Panton as the duly recognized Party Leader. Mr. Barrow’s proposal is an attempt to undermine that process, and we will not allow any individual to bypass the will of the delegates or the Party’s constitution.”
It adds, “…we will not compromise the Party’s future for personal interests or political games.” The party remains focused on rebuilding and preparing for the next general elections under the leadership of Hon. Tracy Panton. Our priority is to work together with all standard bearers and Party members to ensure that the party is positioned to win and to serve the people of Belize.
In a separate press release issued and posted on social media, the Shyne Barrow’s UDP is threatening litigation, saying that “there is established case law that protects against passing off as our political party” and warns media houses against “disseminating false information” that could also lead them to be sued.
