Pastor and family arrested and charged for kidnapping, assaulting daughter-in-law in Belmopan

By Aaron Humes: Tonight, police have formally arrested and charged four members of a Belmopan family for the alleged kidnap and assault of a 23-year-old woman married to their son.

45-year-old Luis Alfredo Tiul Sr., a Guatemalan Pastor, and 59-year-old Matilda Games, a Guatemalan National, are charged with the crime of Administering Noxious Matter. Additionally, Luis Alfredo Tiul Sr. was charged with Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault, Wounding, and Sexual Assault.

24-year-old Luis Alfredo Tiul Jr. was formally arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault and Wounding; and 43-year-old Elizabeth Tiul, a Mexican Housewife was formally arrested and charged with the crime of Kidnapping, Wounding, and Aggravated Assault.

This evening Commissioner of Police Chester Williams told the press that the victim was able to escape from the home as police responded: “She managed to escape from them last night and the police encountered her. She has since made a report and the persons are in police custody at this time.”

He added that police are satisfied that all family members participated in the incident and that the victim will receive further assistance as she tries to recover: “Certainly, we are looking at that and whatever help she may need then we will seek from other agencies, maybe even getting her a safe house if her family would not be able to keep her safe. We can see if we can speak to Haven House or some other institution until she can get herself back together.”
