Mother about to give birth pleads guilty to crack pipe possession

By Aaron Humes: She is due to give birth for the fourth time in a week’s time, but instead of being at home or in hospital, 28-year-old Reeva Jones spent Wednesday night at the police station and part of Thursday morning in court.

The reason: police busted her in possession of a crack pipe on Wednesday on Victoria Street in Belize City.

According to Jones, she had stopped using crack but went to borrow someone’s pipe after “getting upset.” She pleaded guilty and was fined $100 and cost of court due by February 6, 2025, in default two weeks in prison.

A clearly laboring Jones claimed police had held her overnight and refused bail despite having what she thought were labor pains.

The soon-to-be mother told the court, “I nuh wah keep the baby though. I wah put ah up for adoption so he wah get a betta life,” adding that she knows someone who wants a child.
