By Aaron Humes: Police have arrested and charged a 27-year-old Belize City man for possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply to another.

On Thursday, October 24, around 12:30 p.m., police conducting a vehicular checkpoint between miles 66 and 67 on the Philip Goldson Highway in the Corozal District stopped a grey Toyota Camry taxi approaching the checkpoint. The driver, Karl Theodore Pope, a taxi driver from Belize City, was informed that a search would be conducted on the vehicle for drugs and illegal firearms. During the search, officers discovered eleven parcels of cannabis in the vehicle. The cannabis was weighed and amounted to a combined total of 9,540 grams or just over 21 pounds.

Police then formally arrested and charged Karl Theodore Pope with the offense of possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply to another. Pope pleaded guilty in court and was remanded to the Central Prison pending sentence.
