By Horace Palacio: Belizeans are enjoying sunny skies and warm temperatures today, but the National Meteorological Service (NMS) is warning that a change is on the horizon. Catherine Cumberbatch, forecaster for the NMS, reports that moist and somewhat unstable conditions prevail across the country.

While today boasts sunny skies with cloudy intervals and a few showers, mainly offshore and along coastal areas, tonight and tomorrow will see increased cloud cover and outbreaks of showers and isolated thunderstorms, primarily along the coast.

Temperatures remain warm, with highs of 85°F (29°C) along the coast and a balmy 89°F (32°C) inland. However, the NMS is closely monitoring a broad area of low pressure developing over the southwestern Caribbean Sea. This system has a low chance of development over the next 48 hours, but that chance increases significantly over the next 7 days.

The potential for this system to strengthen into a tropical depression or storm has prompted the NMS to urge residents to stay informed and prepared.

The outlook for Saturday and Saturday night includes cloudy intervals with scattered showers and thunderstorms.
