By Horace Palacio: The National Meteorological Service of Belize has issued a forecast indicating relatively moist and somewhat unstable conditions across the country. Today, residents can expect sunny skies with cloudy spells, transitioning to cloudy skies tonight. Isolated showers are anticipated, with a slightly higher chance of precipitation along the coast this morning, in central and inland areas this afternoon, and returning to the coast tonight.
Temperatures will vary across the country, with coastal areas experiencing highs of 86°F (30°C) and lows of 75°F (24°C). Inland regions will be slightly warmer, reaching 89°F (32°C) during the day and cooling to 72°F (22°C) at night. Hilly areas will be the coolest, with highs of 75°F (24°C) and lows of 65°F (18°C).
Marine conditions will see northeasterly winds blowing at 5-15 knots, resulting in choppy seas with waves reaching 3-5 feet.
The National Meteorological Service is closely monitoring two weather systems with the potential for tropical development. The first is a broad area of low pressure over the southwestern Caribbean Sea, characterized by disorganized showers and thunderstorms. This system has a medium chance of development within the next 48 hours.
The second system, located a few hundred miles west-northwest of the Azores, is also showing signs of organization and carries a medium chance of development within the next 48 hours.
Looking ahead to Sunday, skies will be cloudy at times, with isolated showers or thunderstorms possible. There is a chance for increased shower activity over central and northern areas Sunday morning and in inland regions Sunday afternoon.
Residents and visitors are advised to stay informed about weather updates and be prepared for potential changes in conditions.
