By Aaron Humes: Belizean-American national and firefighter Gilbert Lightburn Jr. is a free man after appearing in court on Wednesday where the four virtual complainants against him requested no further court action, subject to filing a report with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
On Friday, the court formally saw all charges withdrawn and Lightburn was reunited with his wife and other Belizean relatives who has been supporting him since his arrest.
It turns out that the complainants in the matter – Ian and Javon Abraham and Mark Usher against whom Lightburn was charged with attempted murder, and Giovanni Abraham for which he was charged with use of deadly means of harm – are apparently related. It all stemmed from an altercation at Shisha Night Club on September 1 in which all four men were stabbed.
Lightburn was represented by Richard “Dickie” Bradley.
Lightburn is pursuing the return of personal items including a chain valued at $70,000 which later turned up at a pawn shop. A police officer faces charges of handling stolen goods in relation to that incident.
