By Rubén Morales Iglesias: League-leading Verdes report that the weather promises to be fine tonight in Benque Viejo del Carmen, so they are proceeding with the Match of the Season against champions Port Layola. The match is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 pm at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium.
After nine matches, Verdes lead the Premier League of Belize (PLB) with 21 points from seven wins and two losses. Port Layola are right behind with 19 points after six victories, a draw, and two losses. A victory for either team gives them the top spot, but a draw secures the lead for Verdes.
Ahead of the match, tickets cost $12. At the gate, fans will have to fish out $15. Children under 13 have free access.
Meanwhile, the San Pedro Pirates match against Progresso, scheduled for 7:30 pm at the Ambergris Stadium in San Pedro, is also on for Saturday night. The Wagiya-Bandits game is slated for 4:00 pm at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga on Sunday.
The PLB has had to postpone these last three regular season games twice because of bad weather and has plans in place to move them to the FFB Stadium in Belmopan in case they can’t be played at the clubs’ home fields. In fact, Verdes’ advertisement for the game indicated to fans that if the match couldn’t be played in Benque, it would be relocated to the FFB Field for Saturday night.
