By Aaron Humes: Members of the National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB) Executive Council have met with Prime Minister John Briceño and Minister of Public Service, Constitutional and Political Reform and Religious Affairs, Henry Charles Usher.
According to the Congress, “Several national issues were discussed. The meeting was amicable and proved to be fruitful. NTUCB remains committed to socio and economic development through social dialogue.”
The Congress has been pushing for a resolution over the appointment of an Auditor General, the acquisition of land in Belmopan to build the University Hospital, and other issues.
On his own social media page, the Prime Minister gave a rundown of topics discussed: “…the OSH Bill (Occupation Safety and Health Bill), representation of the KHMH Workers Union on the Board, SPV-SSB Committee, Amendment to Finance and Audit Act, Tertiary Hospital Act Amendment, Starlink to Belize, Auditor General Post and Office as well as hiring and appointments to the Judiciary.”
Briceño indicated that he and the Congress “agreed on most of the issues on a way forward,” adding, “GOB takes the Tripartite Partnership serious[ly] and will continue to work and dialogue with the NTUCB.”
