By Aaron Humes: To curb speeding and improve safety for motorists accessing the newly constructed parking facility on Regent Street, a new speed bump has been installed near the area in downtown Belize City. Mayor Bernard Wagner today announced the implementation of the speed bump, situated near Brodies, emphasizing its necessity for both safety and traffic flow.
During a press conference today, Mayor Wagner explained that the decision to place the speed bump was driven by the need to facilitate safer access to the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH) parking lot. With an increase in traffic around the area, particularly from impatient drivers, the mayor believes the speed bump will play a crucial role in preventing potential accidents.
“To ease speeding and improve access to the parking facility, it’s essential to slow down traffic for drivers entering the NICH parking area,” Wagner stated. “The traffic committee assessed the situation and decided to install this speed bump. I genuinely hope it saves some lives.”
The installation comes as part of ongoing efforts by the City Council to enhance road safety and ensure that drivers can maneuver through the busy downtown area with caution.
