Ladyville man on remand after allegedly assaulting officer, found with ammunition

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Ladyville man recently released on bail for an ammunition-related charge is back in custody after allegedly being found with more ammunition and assaulting a police officer. Lennox Linford Gentle, 22, a maintenance worker from Marage Road, appeared unrepresented in Court #7, where he was charged with keeping unlicensed ammunition, aggravated assault on a police officer, and wounding.

The incident began on October 31, 2024, when police reportedly found two live rounds of 9mm ammunition and two Aguila brand rounds at Gentle’s residence. According to officers, the bullets were hidden in a sofa, though Gentle contended they were found near a post outside his home, claiming the ammunition was planted.

During his arraignment, Gentle initially pled guilty, expressing a wish to avoid prison time, but then disputed the police’s account, leading the magistrate to reject his plea. Without the option of bail for unlicensed ammunition charges, Gentle was remanded until December 30, 2024.

While in custody on November 1, Gentle allegedly became aggressive, striking and biting PC Wilmer Acosta during a handcuff removal, resulting in a wound to Acosta’s hand. Gentle, however, claimed he only spat on the officer, alleging he was mistreated while handcuffed.

Gentle remains in custody pending his next court appearance.
