By Aaron Humes: The Office of the Belize Film Commissioner has officially announced the upcoming launch of the Belize Film Xchange: Crossroads, an exciting new international film festival scheduled to take place in February 2025. This week-long event will feature a series of Cinematic Masterclasses followed by three full days of film screenings, showcasing the talent of filmmakers and industry professionals from across the Caribbean and Latin America.
The Belize Film Xchange: Crossroads aims to highlight and celebrate the rich cultural and artistic diversity of the region. The festival will present a carefully curated selection of films alongside educational seminars and hands-on workshops. This initiative is designed to foster creative dialogue and cultural exchange, providing a dynamic platform for collaboration among artists from different backgrounds.
“This project has been long in the making, and I am so excited to finally bring it to life in 2025,” expressed Carlo Habet, Belize’s Film Commissioner and Festival Director. “This is such a critical time to support and grow our creative industries, and I hope that this new annual convening will be a continual catalyst for growing Belize’s creative economies and providing more opportunities for artistic development and expression.”
The festival theme, “Crossroads,” reflects Belize’s unique geographical and cultural position at the intersection of Latin America and the Caribbean. Educational workshops and seminars will occur prior to the screening program, taking place at The Bliss Centre for Performing Arts as well as various satellite screening locations throughout Belize City.
Filmmakers interested in submitting their works for consideration at the festival can do so between October 25 and November 25, 2024. Additional details and application information can be found on the festival’s official website. Questions can be directed to the provided contact email.
The Belize Film Xchange: Crossroads is made possible through the collaborative efforts of several organizations, including the National Institute of Culture and History, Belize City Council, Belize Tourism Board, Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries, and the European Union in Belize.
As the Belize Film Xchange: Crossroads approaches, excitement builds for its potential to elevate and support the creative industries within Belize and beyond, marking an essential step forward for regional artistic expression.
