By Aaron Humes: A group of four men including a law enforcement officer, all of the Fabers Road Extension area are on remand at the Belize Central Prison for the early Monday morning murder of taxi driver Shawn Albert Ortiz Campbell and will remain there until next January.
The four men have been identified as 35-year-old Kyle Nobert Stephon Domingo, of Madam Liz Avenue; Gasman Gilmore Jones, 28, of Rio Bravo Crescent; 47-year-old Charles Alexander Brown, an LIU Worker of Madam Liz Avenue; and Police Constable Peter Jamal Jeremy Perez, 23, of Río Bravo Crescent, Fabers Road Extension, Belize City.
All were read a charge of murder and told that no plea will be taken from them since the charge was an indictable offense and that due to the nature of the offense, no bail could be offered, so they were all remanded to the Belize Central Prison until January 6, 2025.
After being asked by Domingo, the court ordered the immediate sharing of the facts of the case to each accused and in the case of Perez and Jones, defense attorney Senior Counsel Simeon Sampson outside the courtroom.
Domingo will serve unrelated separate time for a conviction during the pandemic related to violations of the State of Emergency in November of 2020 which he thought had been thrown out. (The Government has motioned for such a relief in the National Assembly.)
Charles Brown was also told he was in debt to the court for the sum of $300 plus cost of court.
Ortiz was stabbed to the left side of his chest during a fight near Stephen’s Place on Jaguar Avenue early Monday morning, after leaving. He was reported dead an hour later. Police identified all four men from surveillance cameras at the establishment.
