By Aaron Humes: Elvira Virginia Grant Mulholland, a 44-year-old businesswoman from Santa Elena Town, Cayo District, is accused of allegedly shooting her husband, Jeffery Mulholland, in the head. Jeffrey Mulholland survived, but Elvira now faces several serious charges, including attempted murder, harm, and the use of deadly means against her husband, as well as charges of robbery.
On November 1, Elvira’s attorney, Lynden Jones, filed for bail after her initial court appearance, but the hearing did not progress. A High Court judge ordered a detailed psychiatric evaluation to determine if Elvira is fit to reintegrate into society. Consequently, the bail hearing has been postponed until November 25.
Elvira first appeared in court on October 28, two days after the incident that occurred on October 26. Shortly after, on October 31, she was brought back to court to face additional charges of robbery for allegedly stealing an iPhone valued at $4,000 and $9,000 in cash from Jeffery.
No plea has been entered, and due to the severity of the charges, Elvira remains in custody at the Belize Central Prison, with her next court date set for December 30.
