By Breaking Belize news Staff: Seth Carrillo, 21, a construction worker from Belize City, found himself facing a $505 fine after pleading guilty to handling stolen goods in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. Carrillo was charged with the offense after police discovered he had been in possession of five stolen Crystal water bottles valued at $75 in total.
The incident occurred on November 4, 2024, when Carrillo was accused of retaining the bottles, originally belonging to Manuelito Castillo. Carrillo admitted in court that while he initially was unsure if the bottles were stolen, he “had an idea.” He had reportedly bought the bottles for $5 each and managed to sell one before police tracked him down through the buyer.
Due to his guilty plea and status as a first-time offender, the magistrate opted for a non-custodial sentence, imposing a $500 fine plus a $5 court fee. Carrillo has until January 15, 2024, to pay the amount or face six months in prison.
