By Breaking Belize News Staff: After spending four nights on remand at Belize Central Prison, two young men from Southside Belize City faced sentencing on Friday for assaulting a 13-year-old boy. Lawnie Fitzroy Leslie, a 22-year-old fisherman, and Anthony Alexander Supall, a 21-year-old construction worker, appeared before the Magistrate in Court #7, where they received fines and were ordered to maintain peace for a year.
Leslie, who admitted to beating the boy, was fined $1,000, with an additional $5 in court costs. He has until February 15, 2025, to pay, or he will face nine months in prison. Supall, who confessed to attempting to steal the boy’s bicycle and subsequently throwing it at him, was fined $1,000 for wounding and another $1,000 for aggravated assault, plus $10 in court costs. He must pay $2,010 by February 28, 2024, to avoid a potential 18-month prison term.
The assault occurred on November 3, 2024, when the 13-year-old was approached on Lacroix Boulevard by two vehicles. One of the men, who the boy identified as his cousin, allegedly pushed him before the two others attacked, kicking him while he was on the ground. The boy reported the incident to his mother, leading to the charges. A third individual, an 18-year-old, was initially charged but was later released after Leslie and Supall took responsibility for the assault.
