The defending national champions and Central Zone winners, Saint Catherine Academy (SCA) Seahawks, are seeking to win their 18th consecutive national high school volleyball title later Saturday when they meet the Western champions, San Ignacio’s Sacred Heart College (SHC) Hawks, in the final. SCA has dominated the competition since 2005. The number of national wins could have been higher, but no competitions were held in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Additionally, SCA has won the Central Zone championship for 30 consecutive years.
On Friday, OWTHS fell to SCA 3-0 (25-5, 25-9, 25-5), while TCC lost to Sacred Heart 3-0 (25-20, 27-25, 25-21).
In the boys’ competition, St. John’s College will play Benque Viejo del Carmen’s Our Lady of Mount Carmel High School in the final.
The tournament, organized by the NSSSA, is hosted by Belize High School of Agriculture.
