By Rubén Morales Iglesias: In an intensely competitive semi-final clash, the San Pedro Pirates managed to hold league leaders Verdes to a 1-1 draw at Ambergris Stadium in San Pedro on Saturday.
The Pirates, playing on home turf, took an early lead when Aldin Forman scored a brilliant goal in the 27th minute. The Pirates’ fans erupted in celebration, but Verdes responded strongly in the second half.
Verdes’ hottest player over the last few games, Desmond Wade, equalized for the Green Machine in the 67th minute with a powerful strike, bringing the score to 1-1. Despite numerous attempts from both sides, neither team could break the deadlock, and the match ended in a draw.
This result keeps the San Pedro Pirates in contention for a spot in the final, while Verdes remain favourites to advance. The return match will be held at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio on Sunday, November 17, where Verdes will look to capitalize on their away point.
