By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Under-16 Belize Girls National Team (BGNT) fell 2-1 against Cuba, finishing in eighth place in the 2024 Central American Football Union (UNCAF) FIFA FORWARD Under-16 Girls Championship.
Though both teams lost their three group games, Belize had a stronger first round than Cuba, scoring one goal and conceding six, compared to Cuba’s three goals scored and 18 conceded. However, despite taking an early lead with a goal by Shanalee Smith in the 12th minute, Belize allowed one goal in each half, resulting in a loss in their final game.
Before Tuesday’s seventh-place match, Belize lost 2-1 to Nicaragua on Wednesday, November 6, 3-0 to El Salvador on Friday, November 8, and 1-0 to Panama on Sunday, November 10.
Nicaragua will play Guatemala for fifth place at 3:00 pm. El Salvador will face Honduras for third place at 5:30 pm, while Panama will tackle Costa Rica for the regional title at 8:00 pm.
