By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Men’s National Team (BMNT) is ready to take on French Guiana on Thursday at 7:00 pm at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan.
The Belize-French Guiana home-and-away encounter is just one of 32 Concacaf matches that will be played in November in the Concacaf Nations League, but it means the world to the BMNT. Winning these Concacaf Gold Cup Play-In matches can give them a ticket to the Concacaf Gold Cup Preliminary Round (Prelims).
The return match will be at 8:00 pm (5:00 pm Belize) on Tuesday, November 19, at the Dr. Ir. Franklin Essed Stadium in Paramaribo, Suriname.
Belize qualified for the Play-In Round as the second-best League C group winners, behind Barbados, and will be playing French Guiana, the best sixth-place team in League A. Belize topped League C’s Group B with 12 points, going undefeated in four games and without conceding a goal.
So far, Belize has won three of the six matches they’ve played against French Guiana, drawn one, and lost two.
Barbados will be playing against Guyana in the Play-Ins. The other two League C teams that qualified for the Play-Ins, Cayman Islands and St. Kitts and Nevis, will be trying their luck against Guadeloupe and Cuba, respectively.
